It is important to check health certificates of the parent dogs and ask questions about the health issues of the breed. The parent dogs should be tested for hip and elbow dysplasia, and eye disorders. If possible, determine from what diseases the ancestors of the puppy have suffered. The German Shepherd Dog often suffers from skin allergies, bloat, CHD, and other disorders. Ask the breeder on the issue of Aspergillus. This is a potentially fatal disease seen in German Shepherds.

Let the breeder you are buying a puppy from teach you the main techniques of training the breed.
